$a Každý člen spoločnosti má určité miesto, pozíciu v jej štruktúre, v sociálnych, respektíve interpersonalnych vzťahoch. Pod sociálnym statusom rozumieme vyjadrenie sociálnej pozície spojenej s istými právami a povinnosťami, ktoré sú viazané na danú sociálnu pozíciu. Sociálny status je vyjadrovaný nielen určitými okruhmi práv, povinností, očakávanými konaniami, vzormi správania, ale i vonkajšími vizuálnymi znakmi, či už hovoríme o statuse vrodenom, získanom či pripísanom. Práve tento aspekt je pomerne výrazne zastúpený aj v prípade úmrtia daného jedinca a reprezentujú ho následné pohrebné obyčaje. Sociálny status, zaradenie k určitej sociálnej skupine (na základe veku, rodu, profesie, záujmovej činnosti, ideológie a pod.) sa výraznou mierou podpisujú na ich formálnej a výrazovej stránke. Príspevok sumarizuje etnologické dáta z tejto oblasti na základe dlhodobého štúdia nielen starších, ale najmä aktuálnych foriem pohrebných obyčají na Slovensku. Snaží sa pomenovaťa analyzovať základné súvislosti statusu jedinca a pohrebných obyčají, vplyv statusu na ich formálnu, výrazovú stránku. 520 3-
$a Every member of society has a certain place and position in its structure and in social and interpersonal relations. We understand the term "social status" as an expression of a social position, connected to certain rights and duties that are related to the given social position. Social status is expressed not only by certain packages of rights and duties, and expected actions and models of behaviour, but also by external visual features - this involves hereditary, acquired and assigned statuses. It is this aspect that is quite significantly represented when the given individual dies and in the subsequent application of funeral customs. The social status and membership of a certain social group (based on age, gender, profession, hobbies, ideology etc.) have significant effects on both the formal and expressional aspects of these customs. This contribution summarises ethnologic data from this sphere, collected from a long-term research of not only rather older, but also current forms of funeral customs in Slovakia, it attempts to name and analyse principal relations between the social status of an individual and the funeral customs, and effects of the status on formal and expressional aspects of these customs. 650 07
