From the modal perspective the Italo-Romance varieties distinguish higher probability vs lower probability constructions: in the first case the different tenses of the indicative are used to refer to past, present and future events, while in the second case the imperfect/pluperfect subjunctive and/or the simple/compound conditional are used (a)symmetrically to refer to non-past/past events respectively. Moreover, neostandard contemporary Italian uses the imperfect indicative to mark (past-present-future) counterfactuality, whereas in old Italian and in most of the dialects of Italy the same verb form was used mainly to refer to lower probability past events. 520 $a Con questo articolo affronto in un'ottica diasistemica il problema del valore delle forme verbali nei periodi ipotetici delle varietà italoromanze, considerando i dialetti italiani, l'italiano antico e l'architettura interna di quello contemporaneo. A livello modale le varietà italoromanze distinguono periodi ipotetici a probabilità alta vs bassa: nel primo caso i diversi Tempi dell'indicativo sono utilizzati per riferirsi a stati di cose passati, presenti e futuri, mentre nel secondo le diverse forme più o meno conservative o innovative di congiuntivo imperfetto e piuccheperfetto e di condizionale semplice e composto vengono impiegate in modo (a)simmetrico per riferirsi a stati di cose rispettivamente non-passati e passati. Inoltre nell'italiano contemporaneo neostandard l'imperfetto indicativo risulta controfattuale e temporalmente neutro, mentre in italiano antico e in numerosi dialetti italiani veniva impiegato per riferirsi alla probabilità bassa nel passato. 650 07
