The Cours de linguistique generale, edited by two students of Saussure (1916), presents a fourth part, the geographical linguistics, divided into four chapters: The diversity of languages, Complications of geographical diversity, Causes of geographical diversity, Language waves propagation. In particular, in the second paragraph of the second chapter, it is discussed about the relationship between literary language and local dialects, and it is reported as one of two illustrative examples the Tuscan component recognized in the Italian common language. This example can offer an interesting starting point, on the anniversary mentioned above, to take a step back and re-read through the lens of Saussure pages those ones about the linguistic reflection cured in life by Alessandro Manzoni, Lettera al Carena (1847, but printed in 1850), and the Report of 1868 Dell'unità della lingua e dei mezzi di diffonderla. 520 $a Nell'anno 2013 è ricorso il centesimo anniversario della morte di Saussure (1857-1913).
