Foreign language teaching theories make a frequent use of linguistic knowledge. There is no doubt that the basis of general linguistics can be useful in future translators' and interpreters' training, as well. Intercomprehension is a linguistic phenomenon of this kind. The paper presents the concept and opens the question of the importance of strengthening receptive linguistic skills of translator and interpreter trainees.
