Slovanská etnika vytvořila dva ústřední mýty či dějinně filosofické koncepce: ideu o jednotě slovanských národů a ideu o spásné úloze Slovanů (Poláků, Rusů) v evropské racionalisticky a pragmaticky orientované kultuře. Prvou ideu korigovaly historické zkušenosti, druhá je dosud využívána, stále silněji se však uplatňuje euroasijská koncepce, představa, že Rusko tvoří syntézu evropských a asijských kulturních principů. Slavic nations created two main concepts (myths) of their history: the concept of Slavic unity and the concept of Slavic (Polish, Russian) messianism. In Russia, this problem stood in the centre of attention throughout the 19th century (the Slavophile ideology). In the 20th century, we can see a shift from the Slavophile messianism (the idea that Russia can solve the ills of European civilization) to a principle identified by the so-called Eurasians, i.e. that a specific civilization should emerge in the territory of the Russian state as a result of a synthesis of European and Asian cultural conditions.
