$a Dies irae - t. j.
$a Dies irae is a christian hymn-sequentia in latin; over the centuries it was a key part of christian funeral liturgies and rituals, part of a specific mass Requiem. Dies irae is a spiritual text, which from middleages till present has become a source of inspiration for musical composers in their compositions, in their searching for a sense of a human existence and its terminality in death. A subject of this paper is Dies irae as a cultural phenomenon, its semantic-musical contexts as we find them in the catholic liturgy, in the music history and in Bible. 650 07
