South Asian countries on the world sugar market

South Asian countries on the world sugar market / Vladimir Milovanovic, Michal Steininger, Luboš Smutka. -- Abstract: The article makes an attempt at identifying, describing, and assessing the key drivers of sugar production and their future prospects for the countries representing the region: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This is achieved by contrasting sugar production (response variable) with a number of predictor variables using simple linear and stepwise multiple regression method and data series for the period 1961-2013 (for most variables). The analysis shows that in majority of examined countries sugar production is determined by the production of sugar cane, sugar consumption, and country’s population, each of them generally explaining about 90 per cent of variation in the response variable. -- Dostupné též v elektronické podobě.
