K slovenským prekladom poézie Walta Whitmana / Ivana Hostová. -- 1 graf, 4 tabulky. -- Summary: On the Slovak Translations of the poetry of Walt Whitman. The present paper takes a closer look at three Slovak translations of the sixth part of Walt Whitman's Song of Myself. The close reading and comparative analysis of the small extracts of the text that can be observed in the study enabled the author to not only support the supposed tendencies and substantiate the vaguer propositions, but to also draw new hypotheses that might escape the critic's attention during an analysis of a more extensive corpus. The analysis helped the author to observe the way in which the older translations influenced the newer ones as well as to determine some of the factors that play an active role in a translation's resistance to this tendency. The current paper also aims at reducing the absence of the Slovak reflection of Whitman's work in the target Slovak culture. It was inspired by the fact that in 2013, Whitman's poetry was translated (by Juraj Kuniak) and published in a book form in Slovak for the third time.
