The key issue of Martin Heidegger's work "Being and Time" is the question of the sense of being. Nevertheless, where should be the starting point in attempting to answer the question? Only a specific entity, which knows about its own being and understands it in a certain way, and is concerned about the very being in its own being, can serve as the starting point. According to Martin Heidegger, "Being There" (Dasein), i. e. human person, is such an entity. The very term "Being There" expresses a certain definiteness and finiteness. "The end" - death - is the decisive factor in determining the being of Dasein. Dasein is "directed to death", "Being-toward-Death" (Sein-zum-Tode). Death is not only a moment when life ends, but it is the determinant of life in its entire "course".
